Client Spotlight: Mahogany Homes

Our latest client, Mahogany Homes, a senior care facility based in Oakland, California. Mahogany Homes began when the founder, Ms. Sharawn Tipton, was in search for a facility to offer services for a family member. After searching visiting several facilities, she was not satisfied and decided to take matters into her own hands. After meeting with her sister and friend, they began the search for an appropriate place to open a facility. Once this was complete, it became time to address the brand and how the business would be presented to potential clients and their families. Ms. Tipton was referred to us by a friend.

Mahogany Homes specializes in senior care for African American Clients by offering services uniquely tailored to residents in a familiar format they will take comfort in. Mahogany Homes is a 24-hour supervised, live-in care facility that also offers Drop-in Care treatment for clients in their own homes and because of this, the brand needed to be engaging, but also soothing and memorable. As a senior care facility, there will be a need for not only a web site that is desinged to be mobile responive but acda compliant, but print media to be distributed to potential clients.

When we began to approach the overall design of the site, we interated over several color-schemes before settling for a relaxed, rich color palate by Pantone featuring the color of the year Mochoa Mousse. The color selection neutral and varies in hue. Highlights are accented my Arona and Desert Flower, both also, Pantone colors. This pallatte is not only complimentary, and soothing, but also unique in dynamic and a subtle manner with a wide range of hues and multiple shades of brown.

From here it was on to Typography by font selection. Two fonts were chosen, Marmelad Regular and Sanserata Regular. We decided to use a font that while not serifed, still has a dignified appeareance. The font is softend by rounded edges that are suggestive of the care that should be associoated with a facility engaged in the care of elderly persons. This is our main font to be used for the majority of the text of the site. The Secondary font, is a easily readable sans serif for secondary text.

We moved through several interations before a proper logo design featuring a uniform house with text was settled on. This with our Typography and Color scheme, rounded off the basis for our brand guideline, which would be used for the reminder of the design process.
